On Dec. 17, 2018, San Luis Care Center in Alamosa, Colorado, enjoyed its first ever “Cookies with Santa” event.
The evening consisted of residents, associates and their families sharing milk and cookies as they spent time together and chatted with Santa. Throughout the evening, Santa listened to the Christmas wishes of more than 30 children.
The evening also included a youth choir from the local Wehe Music Studio, which led the crowd in a variety of Christmas carols and popular tunes.
This light-hearted event would not have been possible without Deb Barnes, executive director, and her leadership team, all of whom donated items to the event and helped decorate for the festive evening. Barnes was the first to propose the idea of an evening with Santa, and she was glad to share her deep appreciation for Christmas with the residents, associates and children.
“This was an emotional event for me,” Barnes said. “I can’t explain how wonderful it feels to watch children experience the magic of Christmas along with watching the residents remember the magic of Christmas.”
Barnes hopes to expand the event in the future so that it includes reading Christmas stories, giving children Christmas books and using even more decorations.
